Nido's Green Agenda

In the nine months that the Nido Spitalfields project has been underway ISG has recovered 86.1% of all waste produced on site and sent it for recycling. This is well above the UK construction industry average of 52% (www.defra.gov.uk) and also above ISG’s own UK average of 79.2% (2007-2008). Other initiatives on site include green energy tariffs, low energy lighting to hoardings and the recycling of rainwater to feed the temporary toilets. Environmental credentials are aided by the incorporation of green and brown roofs, indigenous planting and the provision of nesting boxes and habitat for endangered species of birds and bats.
Once completed in the Fall of 2010 the building will following in Nido King's Cross footsteps with regards to internal policies for residents and staff, following the model of:
• Reducing waste and energy use
• Reusing as many items as we can in the building
• Recycling as much waste as possible
Residents, staff and the local community commend our initial efforts at the King's Cross building, however we are aware of the long term task at hand and will be working hard to maintain and improve The Green Agenda, duplicating its effectiveness at Nido Spitalfields in 2010.
